Officially Spring is here, but unofficially...

....it's not. I have been seeing in the paper how at this time last year, the temps were already up in the mid 60's to low 70's, and this year we have been lucky to see a day above 60. But something tells me that it is about to change. No it is not that Al Gore is now coming out blabbing on about global warming, even though I find it funny you didn't hear from that crackpot all winter long. What was wrong Al, too busy trying to stay warm during one of the coldest winters in a long time? It was that today it stayed sunny for pretty much the whole day. And there was not wind. I almost forgot what it was like without a steady 15 mph breeze.

So me being the type of person that cannot just sit still, I got home from work and headed outside to do some yard work. Now I know that most people HATE mowing the lawn, but I LOVE doing it. So much so that I do a couple yards for people during the summertime. Sure the money that I get for said lawns is nice, but it is also nice being outside. And I just don't mow, I also edge. I take my edging very seriously. If you don't believe me, pay us a visit the day after I mow, and you will think that I have a ruler out there with my making sure my edging spacing stays equal. And for the record, I don't have a fancy edger that has a blade and does it perfect every time. Nope, not for me. I do it all free hand with my electric powered trimmer. I like the electric because it has just enough power. The gas ones can get pretty crazy. In fact I could probably write a whole post on weed whackers...maybe when I am hard up for material for this blog.

That is what was so great about today. When I did my yard a couple weeks ago, it was in very windy conditions, and I had to have on a sweatshirt and gloves to get it done. Today I was in my usual shirt and shorts, with my trusty ipod nano at my side. Alexandra and Lorelai were out riding their bikes, enjoying the nice weather along with me. Inside, Lisa was getting ready for her violin lesson that she was about to teach, and enjoying a nice little break without the girls in the house. It felt for the first time this year like a nice spring afternoon/evening, and I loved every minute of it.

And to top it all off, we went to Sonic tonight for dinner. It is so nice to pull up into one of those slots and take time to really study the menu. When you are in a drive thru line you always feel like you need to hurry and place your order. That is what I love about Sonic. Pull on in, and have a kid bring you out your food and drinks on roller skates. And then there is the carhop that skates around with the condiment tray, and he will stop in front of your car and ask you what you want. Tonight I tried their fry sauce with my tots, and I must say that it went very well together. I would rank Sonic as my number 2 fast food place. Of course for those who know me know that I rank In n Out first, but Sonic is a close second.

So there you have it. That was the Sorenson evening in a nutshell. This is such a great time of year, and now that Baseball has started, and the nice weather is starting to roll in, I can just about drop the "unofficial" off spring, and call it official.

Oh yes, by the way, I just wanted to give a shout out to my loyal readers...all 5 of you. Try as I might, but I can't seem to wrangle some of Lisa's readers to my blog. I was told that all I had to do was to comment on other peoples blogs. Maybe I need to up my commenting. Or I could bribe people with salsa. People seem to like my salsa. That is a lot of maybes, but just maybe, this shameless rant will get people my way. I will just have to wait and see.

Off to watch the rest of Fat Camp on NBC....errr I mean Biggest Loser. Late.

Dude, Spring in TC? Are you fetching kidding me? We're lucky to even have a windless day? If we weren't actually like three cities and two counties, then Chicago would have to hand over the "windy city" title. Its the crazy cold chill thats blowing my mind. When is it gonna warm up?

Nan and I watched Biggest Loser tonight for the first time, and that is a good show. I need to apply to be on it, I would win.

Donald you crack me up. I loved yesterday too. I especially loved the part where I was inside...with just the baby and some peace and quiet :)
I love you.

Ok, I'll admit it! I'm from Lisa's blog, and I read Donald, too! There-I've said it...Do I have to leave my name?

Hey Donald, it's your cousin Alicia. I resurrected an old blog (www.aliciaguglielmo.blogspot.com), and have been checking up on yours...just thought I'd let you know I enjoy your posts!

YOU HAVE A SONIC??? When did that open? I LOVE SONIC!! And I think it's so cool (and at the same time, so lame) that the TC always gets the national/regional chains years before they come to the wet side. We're going to be heading over there soon, there was a promise of Salsa made... and now I'm going to have to make sure we hit up Sonic too.

Oh, and thanks to the built-in RSS reader in Outlook 2007, I read your blog as frequently as you post on it!

Hi Son, I have been reading your blog for quite a while. I just haven't commented because I don't have my own blog or anything like it so I have to be anonymous. I have decided that, that is okay. Now that you are doing more human interest and fun stuff and not all sports and politics [since you know that sports bore me and that you and I don't agree on much politically] I now enjoy your blog very much. Love Mom.

Hey look at all the comments in here Donald. Yees!! I love the fact that you love to do yard work. And the edging thing I believe is a Mathews trait. I see straightness everywhere in that family. I laughed about the weather and the poke at Al. Whatever he's at. I hope he has a hat and gloves on. Sonic has not been visited yet by us in Richland yet, but I will work on that. Take Care and continue to work hard.

Lets be clear Jan, the Sonic is actually in the Kennewick part of Gage. Pasco and Kennewick are the lucky ones...Richland will have to wait and see if and when they will get lucky.

Ok Cousin Donald, here's a comment for you. I know the power of a comment. I'd love to see your edges after mowing, ours are pathetic. Grass growing onto the pathway and driveway. Could you sometime show us how it's done?

Mike 'n' Cindy Brinkerhoff said...

Oh yeah, The Donald, I think I need to borrow your ruler... My grass was growing over the sidewalk after the long winter, and I edged it all back, and got a little carried away. Now I've been accused of digging a moat around our property!

Donald, I am officially here, as a commenter. I was kind of avooiding your blog for a while because it was taking a really long time to load, I don't know why.

But it's not doing it anymore, so I'm here. I love to hear what you have to say!

So are you saying that if I read your blog and comment that you will make us some salsa? We've been asking forever! :-) Just kidding, although if you were to bring us some we really would love it. I wanted you to know that both Bret and I check up on your blog sometimes. We're just lousy commenters.

Alright! that's a pretty high number of comments to this post! You must have more readers than you realize :o). You'll have to forgive those of us that do read but don't always comment :o). Having your lovely wife write a blog such as she did sending people to your blog also works well in gaining more reader. What a sweet life partner you have there.

My husband liked your Al Gore comment.

I'm not above accepting bribery. Especially in the form on the famous "Donald Salsa". So bring it on Sorenson fam!!! heehee ;)

After reading your post, I think I am going to convince husband that we need to have Sonic for dinner too. We've had it lots, but never there. We've always taken it to go. I think my kids would think it's pretty cool. And I agree with you about the tots and fry sauce, it is a perfect combo!

Donald, I am definitely one of your loyal readers. You're very entertaining! Sonic is our favorite place in TC to eat too, but by tomorrow I will have forgotten all about it because I will be eating at IN n OUT! (I'll think of you.)

I read... and, since I know how much I love comments so on my blog, I will leave one here!
And, by the way, my yard in Spokane ALWAYS needs some TLC!

Hey, Donald, it's your other cousin Alicia. I'll admit this is only the second time I've read your blog (the first time was the other time Lisa linked to it) because 1) I already read way too many blogs and 2) I see you commenting on my friends' blogs but not mine!! What's that about?! If you want my comments, buddy, I better be gettin' yours! :)

Way to go Donald! You are hilarious. I will start checking on your blog more often, b/c it is interesting... but I'm commenting less in general on everyone's. I'm not as concerned about getting comments anymore, so I'm not so worried about leaving them. I liked your review of Sonic. I tend to hold back and wait until the fad is over to see if something really is as good as all the hype. It sounds like, in this case, it just might be.

My favorite part is when you called Al Gore a crackpot! Yea . . . global warming . . I was wondering about that the other day when it was SNOWING!!!
