Going through The Amazing Race, one misstep at a time.

One of our favorite shows to watch is The Amazing Race on CBS. Lisa started watching around Season 3, and I was hooked during Season 4. Over the years I have seen some teams that were very smart, athletic, but don’t catch any of the lucky breaks you need to win the race. And then there have been teams that would make Al Gore look like a genius and lose to a one legged man in a butt kicking contest. But for some reason have all the luck in the world, no matter how they Forrest Gump their way through things. For some strange reason, the latter team mentioned always seems to go far in the race. Do they win? Not a chance. Do they knock out teams that are far superior in athletic ability and brains? Yes they do. Which goes to show how much of the game is luck more than anything.

This year the team that falls under the latter category mentioned is a team of frat brothers from Arizona State. Officially they are Dan and Andrew, but they are known affectionately by the other race contestants as 'Dandrew.'

I prefer to call them by a different name. To me, instead of the frat boys, they are the fat boys. What is the reasoning behind this you may ask? It is because this team of nitwits has waddled their way through the entire race. It looks as if they are putting no effort into it at all. In fact, in one of the more recent episodes, Andrew (I think he is the one in the blue shirt.) was actually trying to run up a hill so they could get to their next clue. So what does the bumbling Dan do? He gets mad at his racing partner, telling him that he is going too fast, and he should be walking back with him because they are a team. What? Are you kidding me? You are racing for ONE MILLION DOLLARS!! Frickin Dr. Evil was willing to set off a nuclear weapon for that amount. But I guess to these brain stems it isn't all that big of a deal to win the money.

If you don't watch the show, all you need to see of these two fools is in the clip below. The assignment was to march across a field with some Russian Soldiers. Every other team had no problem doing the march. Just see what happens when Arizona State's finest take on the challenge.

Since the beginning of the season, I have been trying to figure out who these two Mensa's reminded me of. And then it came to me. I have seen these guys before. They were in a movie together! Hmm...lets see...one went by the name Arnold Poindexter, and the other was named Gilbert Lowell. Oh yes, that's it! They were in The Revenge of the Nerds!!

This all makes perfect sense. Dandrew were apart of a frat house at Arizona State. Poindexter and Gilbert were members of the Lambda Lambda Lambda, or Tri-Lambds, and in the movie, they were in Arizona. Dandrew believes that they are cool because they were in a frat house. Of course it might have been a frat house of misfits, but who is going to know?

So, mystery has been solved. I know fully understand the dynamic duo that is Dandrew. Now that I have outed their true identities, maybe their luck will run dry. That, or they will forget their shoes someplace again, and have to run in their socks...again.

I love this post. Matt and I have only watched one season of Amazing Race before, and we loved it, but just kept forgetting it was on after that. This season we've finally watched again and yeah, these guys are ridiculous. That video was perfect. The whole time we watched that part on Sunday we were laughing and trying to figure out what the heck he was doing! Did he really think he was doing it right? I love that the soldiers are just standing there laughing at them. Then of course it's a non-elimination round. Of course. We like Nick and Starr--I'm glad they didn't come in last, they sure had bad luck this week.

I was laughing out loud on Sunday night because of that marching - it was hilarious! I can't wait for those guys to get voted out. I even like the fighting duo Kenny and Tina better than them...

Oh Donald....thank you for posting this! That had to be one of the funniest clips ever. I mean, really, how hard could it be. I would love to have seen Dandrew watch this back. I bet he had no idea how ridiculous he looked.

Nick and Starr definately deserve to win. They are smart, quick, and treat eachother well. If there is one thing that iritates me, it's when a team that doesn't get along wins and it's suddenly all, "oh I love you" and, "I knew we could do it" and, "I am so proud of you".

I love The Amazing Race. My favorite show on TV right now. I am proud to say that I have seen every episode of every season (yes I started with season 3....but went back and caught up on 1 and 2). An 'amazing' show. So fun to see the world and the dynamics between the teams. And the editing is fabulous. How they can take footage from all these different teams doing different things at different times and edit it all so that it is chronologically correct, AND makes sense is true talent. No wonder it always wins the Emmy for best reality series. And I still can't believe that with all those camera men running around (one for each team of 2) you never see them in any of the shots. Like I said, great editing.

Since I happen to be a consientious objector to the show, I guess it's really none of my business, BUUUUUUUT I'm going to comment anyway.
Do you think it's just possible that the Dandrew type teams are surreptititously being helped out by the Producers to last a little longer?
On a different note, I cracked up over the name Dandrew. If there is a gay couple out there anywhere, with those names I hope that they will take advantage of that and rechristen themselves Dandrew.

We love this show. Sunday I was dumbfounded because really, it looked like he was TRYING to screw it up.

And I wonder how some people make it through life...

I totally know what you mean! Jacob and I were busting a gut on Sunday watching them march. We are so ticked that they are still in it.

It's painful to watch them race. How dumb can you get? It was the same thing with the 2 ladies that were divorced. I'm glad they are gone.

(Jacob's arm is still sore by the way!)

Rick and I LOVE The Amazing Race and this season has been highly entertaining! I agree with your wife about Nick and Starr deserving to win, although I don't mind Toni and Dallas either. The "separated" couple and Dandrew drive me crazy!

I would love to see how my husband and I would do on the Race- I think I would be embarrassed by my actions, so I try not to judge the players too hard sometimes. I do not do well without eating often or getting enough sleep over a long period of time... not a good combination for the Race! :)

I have to say, your wife's blog is one I have started reading, so I guess I may have to come clean and leave her a comment sometime. Maybe you can give her a heads up about the crazy blog-stalking girl named Brooke that you went to school with so she's not too freaked out!

Hey Donald, do you want to know something weird? On our laptop, our son Josh's picture comes up as your profile picture on your blog and in your comments, but on the other computer, your profile picture is normal. Isn't that crazy???
